NE Community BBQ Coordinates with NE MPS School Open Houses to Celebrate New School Year! Aug. 25, 3 - 8 pm @ Edison (1700 22nd Av NE)

For the very first time in history all of our Northeast MPS schools (Marcy, Pillsbury, Sheridan, Waite Park, Northeast Middle School & Edison High School) will be “kicking off” the new school year together by inviting families to a Community BBQ held at Thomas Edison High School from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The BBQ attendance just keeps growing every year!

As always, the “Northeast Community Celebrity Grill-Meisters” will push the grill to the limits. We have learned there is heavy competition for the honor of preparing the cole-slaw this year. The inside scoop is that a citrus flavored coleslaw is the front runner. Wow! Other highlights to follow but for now just Mark Your Calendars! As always everyone is welcome! We know the Open Houses make for a busy day, especially for those that have to attend a couple of them. No dishes or preparing meals for you on Open House night.  Join us when it’s convenient for you.

Please complete this NOC Parent Survey - 5 Minutes to Help Our Mpls Schools

Neighborhoods Organizing for Change
Parent Survey on Education

Over the last year, NOC has been building a community of parents, teachers, and community leaders who want to work on improving education, especially for lower-income children. In the Fall, NOC is preparing to launch an ambitious campaign to improve our schools. Prior to that, the folks at NOC want to listen to parents just like you to make sure they work on the most pressing issues facing our community schools. That's why NOC needs you to spend about five minutes taking their education survey. You can click here to take it online right now.

Already, over 240 parents have shared their insights and experiences with NOC.  Their survey sample includes a good representative cross section of the racial, cultural, and economic diversity of the Twin Cities.  Your survey answers will help shape NOC's agenda for 2011, and our community will be stronger for it.

There is one more week to collect data, as NOC must finish the survey by this weekend so that they can start studying the results and preparing a report to release in September when school starts up again. After you take the survey yourself, please consider sharing it with other parents from your childrens' school, or from your neighborhood.
